A rare opportunity to move from a traditional actuarial environment to a wide-ranging team role analysing insurance companies and markets.

Fitch Ratings is a leading global rating agency committed to providing the world’s credit markets with independent, timely and prospective credit opinions.

Transparency, responsiveness, perspective, and integrity are fundamental to everything we do. From the ratings we issue, to our world-leading research, to our advanced products and services, we’ve modelled our business on forward-thinking attitudes, an investor-first orientation and a service culture.

Fitch Ratings is dual-headquartered in New York and London, operating offices and joint ventures in more than 47 locations and covering entities in more than 90 countries. Fitch Ratings is a majority-owned subsidiary of Fimalac, S.A., an international business support services group headquartered in Paris, France.

Fitch is an equal opportunity employer who employs people across the full spectrum of society. Fitch works hard to create a workplace with an emphasis on inclusion, innovation and merit. By valuing diversity and equality in our workplace, we believe it adds strength to our business.

Fitch’s Insurance group provides ratings and analysis on insurance companies and insurance securitisations worldwide, to help market participants thoroughly assess their risk. The group also publishes comprehensive research on issues and trends in insurance markets.

Because of the increasing globalisation of insurance markets, the group coordinates all research and analysis through a global organisational structure, whose goal is to achieve consistency of rating methodology across countries. At the same time, Fitch strives to ensure that its insurance ratings fully incorporate the unique aspects of local markets by assigning regional management and lead analysts with local market knowledge and presence.

The Insurance team in London covers the UK life, non-life and reinsurance markets, including insurance securitisations, and supports Fitch’s growing coverage of insurance markets elsewhere in Europe.

With support and guidance from colleagues, the successful candidate will review each company’s performance from public information, and usually also with access to confidential information and discussion with the company’s senior management. They will then prepare an analytical report on the company and present their ratings recommendations to an internal committee. There will also be opportunities to contribute to reports on insurance topics and to discuss Fitch’s opinions on insurance with investors and financial journalists.

The role is London-based with occasional meetings with insurers and investors elsewhere in the UK and Europe.

Key deliverables:
1. Develop an understanding of Fitch’s rating methodology for insurance companies.
2. Provide timely, accurate credit analysis for a portfolio of companies.
3. Contribute to publications and presentations to raise the profile of Fitch’s Insurance group.

This is an opportunity to join a successful and ambitious team, leading to responsibility and recognition for a significant part of Fitch’s UK and European life insurance portfolio coverage.

The successful candidate will take part in meetings with FTSE 100 Board members and senior managers and develop an in-depth understanding of companies’ performance and strategies. Publication of reports and presentations at conferences will further enhance the analyst’s profile.

The role will also give insight into capital markets and interaction with investors.

- Candidates must have a life actuarial background.
- Familiarity with embedded values and insurance company financial statements would be an advantage.
- Strong communication skills – written and presentational – are essential.
- We will consider part-qualified life actuaries through to life actuaries with a few years' PQE, and shape the role according to the level of the successful candidate.
