The successful candidate will work with the Markit MSA development team to further enhance and scale the platform and participate in any future green field initiatives. Markit MSA provides a comprehensive, transparent and validated market share service for European equity markets.

Technical Skills

Required:

  • Advanced database skills (data modeling, normalization, performance tuning for batch-based or real-time databases and similar).
  • Advanced SQL programming (Sybase or other major RDBMS) including stored procedures, optimization, transaction processing, monitoring and error handling. 
  • Understanding the issues facing systems that load large volumes of data at high speed both from writing and reporting and perspective.
  • Web applications development experience (Java Servlets, JSP)
  • General Java skills (J2SE 5.0)
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX

Highly Desirable:

  • JDBC / XML
  • Experience in Sybase IQ or any column based database architecture
  • Experience of working in the Financial Industry

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of a scalable time series database to handle multiple queries real-time
  • Ability to work closely with the business to provide a product tailored to our business partners requirements
  • Second-line application support of the production MSA system
  • Active participation in releasing of the new code – sometimes out of business hours

  • Strong academics preferred, ideally a good honours degree or equivalent
  • Consistent track record of delivery to excellent standards
  • Able to work within a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to take a project through its entire life cycle
  • Commercial awareness: the candidate should be comfortable dealing with senior individuals with strong client and service orientation
